Jon Baron Announces Natalie Williams as Running Mate

The Baron-Williams ticket will win the primary on July 19, and bring a fundamentally new governing approach to Annapolis.

March 18 – Bethesda, MD – Today, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jon Baron announced native Marylander and Prince George’s County resident Natalie Williams as his lieutenant governor running mate in the July 19 primary.

Williams brings more than 20 years of experience in government, communications, and community engagement — serving most recently as Senior Director of Communications and Public Affairs for the Maryland Business Roundtable for Education.

Williams has held a number of prominent executive roles in Maryland and Washington, D.C. — including Vice President of Advancement at Maryland University of Integrative Health and Vice President of Public Affairs at United Medical Center.

Natalie also brings extensive experience in politics and local government. She won election as President of the Ward Eight Democratic Party, and as Chairwoman of Advisory Neighborhood Commission 8A — representing thousands of constituents in the Historic Anacostia community. She also served as a top aide to two members of the District of Columbia City Council. Williams began her career as a journalist, working 12 years in local TV news and earning two Emmy nominations.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to have Natalie join the campaign. She’s had an incredible career in public service – from her executive roles in leading nonprofit organizations to her launch of a foundation to increase breast cancer awareness and her extensive work in government and local news.

She will make a terrific partner on the campaign trail and an excellent lieutenant governor. I can’t wait for the voters of Maryland to get to know her better.

— Jon Baron

Williams is a breast cancer survivor and single mother. Her daughter, Nyela, is a student at the University of Maryland, College Park.

“My whole career has been about communicating with people — about healthcare, about education, about the politics and policies that affect their everyday lives. Communication is at the core of public service and good government, and I’m humbled by the opportunity to bring my years of experience to the campaign trail and to Annapolis.

Jon’s campaign is about doing what works — about turning the page from decades of unproven, ineffective policy making in Annapolis, and ushering in a new era of governing based on bold solutions that have been shown to improve people’s lives. That’s the message that will win this election, and it’s the vision that will bring Maryland forward in 2023 and for decades to come.

I look forward to joining Jon on the campaign trail, and to serving Marylanders as their next lieutenant governor.”

— Natalie Williams

Baron and Williams plan to formally file for governor and lieutenant governor in the coming days. The Baron-Williams ticket enters this critical stretch of the primary as one of the best-funded campaigns in the race — with the resources to share their bold, proven-effective plans with millions of Marylanders across the state.

“This is a wide-open race, and our message is resonating with voters all across the state. We have the resources to get that message in front of millions of Marylanders over the next four months, and that’s exactly what Jon and Natalie will do.

Jon and Natalie are eager to hit the campaign trail as a ticket, win the Democratic nomination in July, and bring a fundamentally new governing approach to Annapolis next year.”
